This Earth Day, we asked ourselves a simple question: What kind of impact do we actually want to have?
At Lasta, we often talk about lasting results — building habits, products, and decisions that continue to make a difference over time. Naturally, that way of thinking led us beyond our product.
Even as a digital product, we exist in the real world — and affect it. So if we care about long-term change for our users, it makes sense to think the same way about the planet.
We didn’t want something symbolic. We wanted something real and measurable.
That’s why we partnered with Tree-Nation to fund the planting of 100 trees in the United States.
Behind this idea
This initiative didn’t start this April. The idea came up right after Earth Day 2025 — we knew we wanted to do something with real, measurable impact. What we weren’t sure about was what that actually meant.

Earth Day itself shows how much collective action can scale: from 20 million people in 1970 (around 10% of the U.S. population at the time) to over 200 million people across 141 countries by 1990 — and today, it has grown into the largest civic event on the planet, engaging hundreds of millions globally each year.
Do you offset carbon? Fund conservation? Support local cleanups? We kept coming back to the same question we ask about our product: will this still matter in ten years?
We didn’t want to rush into something that sounds good but changes nothing. This year, we chose to act on something we truly stand behind.
Why trees?
A tree doesn’t deliver instant results. It takes time to grow, to take root, and to become part of an ecosystem. But once it does, it keeps giving back — for decades. That parallel felt impossible to ignore.
On average, a single tree absorbs around 20–25 kg of CO₂ per year — and over its lifetime, that can add up to 500–1,000+ kg depending on the species and conditions. That means our 100 trees could potentially offset 2,000–2,500 kg of CO₂ per year, and up to 50–100 tons over time.

But the impact goes beyond carbon. Trees restore soil quality, prevent erosion, improve water retention, and create habitats for wildlife — contributing to long-term ecosystem recovery in ways that compound quietly over years.
In a world that often prioritizes speed, we chose to invest in something that represents patience, consistency, and long-term value.
Why the United States?
The U.S. has faced serious environmental pressure in recent years — large-scale wildfires, deforestation, and climate-related damage that leaves lasting marks on ecosystems and biodiversity. Millions of acres of forest are affected every year, and recovery doesn’t happen on its own.
That’s why we chose to support the National Forest Recovery project, which focuses on restoring 155 national forests and 20 grasslands managed by the U.S. Forest Service. In some areas, tree mortality has reached 60–80% due to wildfires and pest outbreaks like spruce budworm, making active reforestation essential to rebuild resilience and restore ecosystems.

These projects take place within the U.S. National Forest System, which spans nearly 193 million acres and plays a critical role in storing carbon, protecting biodiversity, and maintaining water and air quality.
Reforestation helps stabilize damaged land, accelerates natural recovery, and reduces future environmental risks. By supporting this project, we’re contributing to regions where restoration isn’t just beneficial — it’s necessary.
Why Tree-Nation?
Working with Tree-Nation allows us to turn intention into something tangible and verifiable.
Each tree we fund comes with a certificate and the exact geolocation of where it’s planted. That means we can confirm every tree is actually in the ground — and follow its journey over time. We can track planting locations, access project-level data on survival rates, and view transparent estimates of long-term CO₂ impact.

For us, this level of transparency is essential. Lasting results should not only exist — they should be visible and measurable.
A small step, built to last
100 trees is not a grand gesture. It’s a commitment.
A commitment to actions that continue to create value long after they’re made. At Lasta, we believe real impact is built over time.
And this is just one of the steps — we’ll be sharing more soon.
